They relate to various legends within their history such as Liu bang and the Duke of Zhou.

The Yili ceremonial rites took the center stage with a detailed review of seventeen chapters. These chapters contained idealized, prescriptions of various liturgies. The Shi followed these rites through their major celebrations like district banquets, marriages, and mourning of the dead. The Yili further divides into eight major sections, with the first three touching on personal lives of the communities. The first section outlined the ceremonial capping of a young boy while at puberty stage. The second section recounts the steps that two young individuals intending to join their lives together for a lifetime have to follow. As such, it recounts the various steps that ensue during the process of betrothal and culmination into a marriage, especially for officers with an ordinary rank.
