Follow this outline to create your personalized template:

  1. Page 1: Title Page
    • Put “Personal APA Template” as the title of your paper
    • Put in your name
    • Put in the course number
    • Put in the date
    • Put in the instructor’s name
  2. Page 2: Paper
    • Put the short title of your paper in the page heading (E.g. "PERSONAL APA TEMPLATE") in the page header located in the upper left-hand side of page two.
    • Center the title of the paper, “Personal APA Template” at the top of the page.
    • Put the following paragraph in your paper (use the copy and paste function). The quote in the paragraph is from one of the articles in next week’s discussion, The Growing Importance of Soft Skills.
    • Paragraph: Many students grumble and moan when their instructor assigns them to complete a group project. Some students may worry that they will have to do the whole assignment on their own if their group members do not pull their weight. Other students insist that they work better on their own. However, students would be wise to note that working in group projects helps them develop and refine their soft skills. Soft skills are "collection of personal, positive attributes and competencies that enhance your relationships, job performance, and value to the market” (Smith, 2011). And, they are becoming increasingly more important in today’s job market.
  3. Third page: Reference Page
    • Center the title “References”
    • Put the reference in for the quote that was used in the paragraph.

    • Make sure the citation has a ½ inch hanging indent on the second line

You will most likely need to change the font for consistency. An easy way to do this is to use CTRL A to select all, then change the font to Times New Roman size 12.
