i need to reply
can honestly say that it took me a while to think of a situation where I misinterpreted nonverbal cues. I have been told that I have a superpower of some sort. I am just really good at understanding body language. However, a recent meeting with a potential client had me stumped. Her kinesics are what had me convinced that she was not interested in enrolling her children in my childcare program. According to Wood (2016), "kinesics refers to body position and body motions, including those of the face" (p. 143). The way she moved slowly throughout the tour and didn't engage in much conversation with me made me feel that she wasn't interested. I was sure that they would leave, and I would never hear from them again, despite her requesting an enrollment package for both children. She had just recently shut down her own childcare center in a neighboring town and was looking for a place for her children to interact with other kids a few days a week. A few days later she surprised me and requested a start date the following week.
