I wanted to think of a situation that was a little different then you're typical one. So I thought long and hard. As a teacher of Parent Child gymnastic classes I see kids and parents every day. One kid, Maxton in my Tuesday class always comes dressed in overalls. Clearly it's his mom's choice to dress him that way. But I always see him in the cutest overalls. Maxton has denim, corduroy, khaki, and some other types too. One day just about 2 weeks ago he came in wearing a t-shirt and some joggers (so adorable by the way) so I automatically assumed that they were running late, ran out of clean overalls, or he grew out of them. This was just an assumption that I made due to Maxton's physical appearance. Turns out they just didn't realize they always had overalls during their class with me. I try to pay attention to all of the kids I teach to know as much as i can about them such at their likes, dislikes, when it's close to nap time, etc. In order to keep myself from making these assumptions I maybe shouldn't pay as much attention to detail. Physical appearance can tell us a lot about a person. I think this is somewhat different because I teach kids and their parents make their choices regarding clothing or how their hair is cut. To improve communication with kids I really have to take things with a grain of salt. Kids that I teach are usually just learning to crawl or walk and maybe saying a few words. I have to communicate with them by using lots of body language or visual elements since they can't always say what they are thinking.
