I prefer to read newspapers or articles to keep up with what is going on in the world. My children are very young, so reading anactual book is not much of an option for me.Reading the paper daily helps me keep up with what is happening and the changes that are taking place in the community that I live in.Between my work schedule, kids, and my schooling I do not have a whole lot of me time to read the books I once enjoyed. The books I used to read were always mystery novels because I love abook that keeps you guessing with what will happen next.I make sure to read to my children every night so that they will too have a love for reading. Reading is a vital skill to possess ineverydaylifeas an adolescent and as an adult. Teaching children young the benefits of reading will help them to be successful and productive in their future. Students who read widely for pleasure are more likely to experience several benefits with regard to their academic achievement, cognitive development, and social and emotional wellbeing (Clark, 2010; Clark & Rumbold, 2006; Horbec, 2012; Small, Shanahan & Stasak, 2010). Reading is something that a studentcan do to enhance their knowledge and it does not cost to do so.There is so much knowledge in the world that can be captivated by reading.Havingthe freedom to be able to read and make yourself knowledgeable on any given subject is a privilege that we have that a lot ofpeopledo not realize.I came upon an article that discusses the importance of reading in adolescents, as well as the help available tothe parents of thoseadolescentsthat did not finish school. Programs like the one in the article I read about are vital to helping the next generation among us. People are faced with struggles every day butin this day and agemaking oneself knowledgeable on any given subject shouldnotbe one. I will forever be grateful for the foundations that provide this vital skill to people that do not have other resources.
