I think being perceived as being an honest communicator goes a long way in building trust. If you are an honest communicator, then it allows the audience to build trust with you. If you are a manager, it is important that your employees trust you. I have managed staff that had very little trust in their previous manager. That is a very difficult thing to overcome when individuals have worked for someone in the past that they did not trust fully. I have been able to overcome most of these issues by letting employees see that I am just like them. I try to "connect" with them and let them know that although I have to keep the company's best interest at heart, I am also going to look out for them.

Does anyone have an example of a situation in the workforce in which a team did not trust their manager? What happened with the team's productivity? What happened to the manager?
