SUBJECT: Request for Educational Scholarship

It has come to my attention that the Hewlett-Packard Community University is sponsoring as one year Business Writing Course. As the Cignal Email Client Support Team Leader, I am quite familiar with the benefits that such course offers people who are in a line of work that requires them to write numerous communication letters to people of various backgrounds and product needs. Hence my interest in requesting our Advanced Education Department to support my desire in enrolling in the said course through company sponsorship.

The aforementioned community course was specifically created to cater the needs of the busy individuals such as myself as the courses are designed for weekend class attendance and internet correspondence between the professor and the student during weekdays. As such, I do not expect any scheduling conflicts to arise between my work schedule and class hours.

As Post Baccalaureate Certificate Program, the Business Writing class has very specific objectives which I believe fall directly under the needs of our company. These objectives include:

Learning to write quickly

Overcoming procrastination and writers block

Communicating directly and effectively with the reader

Identifying and fulfilling the purposes of different business documents

Applying genre conventions to business documents

Creating documents that follow the edicts of English writing

Writing with energy, confidence, and enjoyment.

The class will be conducted in 2 forms: online during weekdays and in classroom on weekends. Each class offers a different learning opportunity for me as a student because the online class offers:

While the classroom set up gives me the opportunity to:

Upon my completion of the course, I plan to offer myself up to the company as a trainer for incoming agents who will be answering the email inquiries of the Cignal clients. I will be able to transfer my knowledge of proper writing habits and presenting oneself through the written word which is a skill that most of our agents still need to perfect. The company will be able to save thousands of dollars in hiring outside trainers once I complete the course. We will be able to create our own in house training system using the knowledge I will be gaining and therefore, offer the company continuous savings in terms of agent training.

I have been a part of Cignal for the past 5 years and I have always taken every opportunity to help advance the business of our company.
