This paper seeks to highlight the similarities and the differences between the “Dying Gallic Trumpeter” and the “Column of Trajan” in terms of balance of style, function, iconography, technique, and cultural meaning.

Both “Dying Gallic Trumpeter” and the “Column of Trajan” are made of marble pieces. Trumpeter is nude, and the fluid motion of the marble inflicts an impression of strained-movement (Ridgway 151). On the other hand, the “Column of Trajan” is made of 29 pieces of marble weighing up to 77ton. However, there are several differences between these two sculptures.
