Both of her parents work – her mother being a photographer, while her father is an Urdu book publisher. She still lives with her parents since it is not very common that girls or for that matter men move out of their parents’ house before marriage. She has no plans of getting married anytime soon.

Both her parents belong to the province of Punjab,

but they have never been to Punjab in more than 40 years, which is why she likes to call herself a pure Karachiite – a term coined after people from Karachi, which is her hometown. She describes it as the only city with a soul in the country, followed closely by Lahore. It is in Karachi that she was born in a liberal, Muslim family – she herself is an atheist now. Her mother and father have worked very hard to make a life for themselves and it is due to this sort of upbringing that she claims. that she can live in the different times of her life.

Her family used to live together with her grandmother – who she calls Dadi – that is what one calls her father’s mother, and all her aunts and uncles. She never saw her grandfather though, as he died long before her parents got married, but he left them a huge house in which she grew up. The house has now been sold, later demolished and made in to high rise apartments. They also live in an apartment, which is on the third floor where she and her sister share a room.

Since she or her family is not very traditional, they hardly follow any of the religious events that are observed, but they do celebrate Eid which is a Muslim festival. She believes that religion is not a bad thing, but is just not for her. She does not plan to observe a hijab herself either.

Her routine nowadays consists of getting up early in the morning and going to work, which is a part of her internship. She usually gets back home late, after which she cooks which is a very enjoying experience for her. After that she ends her day by reading a book. However, she
