As children and juvenile literature has gone through the course of rich historical background and tough criticisms, particularly in establishing its concrete definition, it has been able to provide entertainment to its readers including adults. As literature continue to write its own history, this research generally aims to find out the significance of the various aspects of literature that were made for children and young adults as well as the roles they play in shaping its readers from innocence into adults who have to deal with a diversity of people with different attitudes and characteristics, for which they may or may not have encountered in the fictional characters in the literatures they have read. The first part of this study deals with the discussion of the brief history of children and juvenile literature.
