Identify and discuss one assumption from the list below that is likely to influence the manner in which you provide professional helping to others.  Explore and share your attitudes.

1. What assumptions do you make about the value of self-disclosure on the part of clients?
2. What are your assumptions pertaining to autonomy, independence, and self-determination?
3. To what degree do you assume that it is better to be assertive than to be non-assertive?
4. How would you describe an authentic person.
5. What other assumptions can you think of that might either help or hinder you in helping diverse client populations?

TIP:  Each student will post one "reply" to the discussion topic above by Wednesday and two "replies" to other student's posts during the week for a total of 3 "replies/posts" on separate days of the week.
