Identifying the Type of Probability Distribution

Collect data for at least 50 observations on a variable of interest to you (e.g., scores on a statistics exam, time spent on reading, number of traffic accident per year, time for phone or laptop every day, numbers of APP on students’ phone, index of stock market, price of gas in a year). Be sure to identify the experimental unit prior to beginning your data search.

1. Before you actually collect the data, identify the probability distribution that you believe will be the best model for the variable you selected. (Be sure to check the properties of the different random variables)

2. Enter the data into a statistical software package and graph the distribution. Does the graph match the probability distribution you identified?
