Imagine you are a speech-language pathologist at an elementary school, and you have noticed that your students are anxious and stressed out. You decide that you want to implement a school-based relaxation program in your school, but only a program that has been researched from a peer-reviewed journal.

For this assignment, you don’t have to find such an article yourself (you don’t have to provide an active link either!). Everybody is writing using the same article:

Zaichowsky, L. B., & Zaichowsky, L. D. (1984). The Effects of a School-Based Relaxation Training Program on Fourth Grade Children. Journal of Clinical Child Psychology, 13 (1), 81-85.

Once you have located this article, you will ONLY use this research article for the writing assignment.

As you’ll notice, the Zaichowsky & Zaichowsky article investigated the validity and reliability of their own relaxation program. But could you use in your own school? Does it have enough scientific rigor? Can you find evidence-based support for the implementation of this program from this article? Find 2 piecesof evidence, for example, from the design features of the study, such as the use of research question(s), the control of bias, use of design features (e.g., experimental vs. control groups), or discussion of quantitative vs. qualitative results. Make sure that the examples that you include are clearly explained. 

You’ll be using in text citation, like so: (Zaichowsky & Zaichowsky, 1984, p.  ). When you have found a piece of evidence you add the page number in the article.

It’s up to you where you will put the article’s reference for the first time. You can put it in the Introduction or in the body of the paper. The full reference of the study goes in the normal location, at the end of your paper.

Your paper should not be more than 3 pages, double spaced and must start with an introduction. Please consult the online writing lab (OWL) for any writing questions.
