****8In “Good Day, Columbus,” historian Michel-Ralph Trouillot argues that the usage of the term “discovery” to refer to Christopher Columbus’ supposed “discovery of the Americas” is a more powerful term in shaping our perceptions of indigenous peoples in the Americas than one might think. 

According to Trouillot, what is the power of the term “discovery” and why does he believe this usage of the  term in context of Columbus’ arrival is problematic? Do you agree with his argument—why or why not? Lastly, are there words, phrases, or descriptors that could be used to more accurately describe Columbus’ arrival?
