In Olive Senior's short story "The Pain Tree," the narrator's mother said her daughter was coming home to possess her inheritance. Returning to her childhood home brings the narrator face to face with another side of her past and her inheritance.  What is the role of the room and the tree in helping the narrator see her past more clearly?
