Institutions and Day-to-Day Behavior

Rank each institution with a number 1-5 in each box (5 being the strongest) for how important you feel the institution is in affecting various aspects of your day-to-day behavior. For example, if you feel that the mass media has a strong effect on how you dress, place a ‘5’ in the Mass Media box in Column 1.

Column 1 = Way you dress

Column 2 = Friends you keep

Column 3 = How you speak

Column 4 = The car you drive

Column 5 = Your education

Column 6 = Things you own

Column 7 = To whom you talk 

Assignment Requirements

1. You will use the handout that you completed in class, Institutions and Day-to-Day Behavior. Remember that you assigned numbers from 1-5 (5 being the strongest) in each category to each institution. 

Write a short response explaining your score for each institution. You should write at least a paragraph about each, using examples from your own life. You may also look for articles describing the impact of these institutions to supplement your personal scores (this is optional).
