ASSIGNMENT FOR WEEK #3: AVOIDING PLAGIARISM   Objective: You will summarize four pieces of evidence you wish to use in the essay due at the end of Week 5.   Week #3 contains the following assignment:   · Week 3: Justified You should review The Basics of APA Style at https://is.gd/SalxMo for a refresher on in-text citations and APA formatting.   This assignment will have you summarize four pieces of evidence you wish to use in the essay due at the end of Week 5.   WEEK #3: JUSTIFIED   Your objective is to summarize four pieces of evidence you wish to use in the essay due at the end of Week 5,   Step 1.  You have been gathering sources for your essay during Weeks 1 and 2.  Gather all your sources and choose four pieces of evidence you are planning to use in your essay due at the end of Week 5.  Also, make sure the four pieces of evidence come from at least three different sources.   Step 2.  Copy and paste all four pieces of evidence into a Microsoft Word document.  Include their references as well!   Step 3.  For each piece of evidence, from Step 2, work through the following process:   · Reflect on the piece of evidence: It is essential to understand the evidence you wish to summarize.  Please take a moment to read the evidence and think about its meaning.  Write down the key ideas, factors, definitions, concepts, and other essential pieces you wish to include in your summary.   · Reduction: The reflection had you write down the key ideas, factors, definitions, concepts, and other essential pieces you wish to include in your summary.  Take a moment and highlight the two or three most essential pieces.   · Time to produce the initial draft of the summary: Produce an initial draft of your summary for the evidence.  Make sure to use the highlighted essential pieces while creating the initial summary.  Do not expect the initial summary to be perfect — the first draft is never perfect!  You merely want to write down what you want to say while integrating the highlighted essential pieces.  You may always return to this step and revise the initial draft into something more satisfying.   · Self-editing and checking yourself: At this point, you should revise your initial summary into an easily read, grammatically correct, and APA formatted writing.  Ask yourself, Does my summary capture the essence of the evidence I want to use?  If so, way to go!  If not, revise until the summary captures the essence of the evidence.  (Remember to include the citation and reference!)   Step 3 should yield four APA-formatted, cited, and referenced summarized pieces of evidence.   You have learned a method to help you summarize evidence.  Do not be afraid to transform this method into a more concise and personalized approach to summarizing.  As we all know, the ideas and processes that we embody define our ability to excel and function — and summarizing abilities are no different.  In short, please take the above method and turn it into something that works for you!   Step 3.  Write one paragraph explaining/justifying why your summarized pieces of evidence are not plagiarized.  You may want to refer to the week’s instruction materials for ideas supporting your explanation.
