Interactive Assignment: Object-Oriented Programming
We learned from this week’s lecture that object-oriented programming (OOP) is a programming language model organized around objects rather than "actions" and data rather than logic. An object stores its state in variables (fields) and exposes its behavior through methods. “Methods operate on an object's internal state and serve as the primary mechanism for object-to-object communication” (Oracle, n.d., para.4). The Oracle tutorial on Object-Oriented Programming: What is an object? (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.identifies four benefits that bundling code into individual software objects provides: 1) modularity, 2) information-hiding, 3) code re-use, and 4) pluggability and debugging ease (Oracle, n.d.).
Choose one of the four identified benefits in using objects in software development. Explain the benefit. Discuss why the benefit is important if you and a peer in the class were working jointly to develop a program. In contrast, identify what might occur in your joint programming effort if you and your peer could not take advantage of the benefit you highlighted. This would be true in structured programming which is the implementation of the source code being processed in the order in which bits of the code have been typed in.
Your initial response should be a minimum of 250 words in length.
