It is important to note that some of the misfortunes of the Declaration of Independence signers have been sensationalized.  Some were not reported till many years later.  Why the wait?  In part because when our country was extremely vulnerable after the Revolutionary War and under the Articles of Confederation, the declaration signers’ trials and tribulations were used as propaganda to unite everyone.  Having that said, many of the signers, their families, and even their friends were hunted down like dogs.  Their sacrifice for this country should never be diminished because some did lose everything, and others still paid a significant cost.  Would you sign the Declaration of Independence, knowing the severe consequences that could occur?  Yes or No does not constitute an adequate response, you must explain your answer!
