Discussion 1: (250-300 words with 2-3 credible references cited in APA)

Choose one of the types of defenses identified in Chapters 5 or 6 (See attached). Give a detailed overview of how the defense works, and then find a news story (in other words, it does not need to be case law, just a news story is fine) regarding a case where that defense was raised and explain how that defense fits (or doesn't fit) the facts from the news story.

Discussion 2: (250-300 words with 2-3 credible references cited in APA)

Choose one of the following crimes: treason, perjury, bribery of government official, or obstruction of justice.  Find a case from the news that involves that crime -- concisely explain the elements of the crime and then how those elements apply to the incident in the news story that you found.  If there is more information that would be needed than is in the news item, explain that as well.  Include your perspective on the particular incident.
