Let's take just a moment and think about the process so far. Feel free to use this writing as a reflection upon what you have experienced so far in the course. You might want to consider some of the questions below, but you are not required to answer them. Remember, as always, that this discussion should be a positive and constructive experience for everyone. The idea is that you reflect upon the process so that you understand it, understand yourself as a new student writer, and understand the challenges and successes you experience.
What do you think is your strongest point? What do you think is your weakest? Do you think the scope of your project is narrowed down efficiently? How are you feeling about the process? What do you think about the structure of the body paragraphs? Does the structure seem too restrictive or helpful and guiding? Looking back on some of the materials that you have read, can you see the structures that we have discussed in the course so far? Do you see differences between academic and public sources in terms of how the paragraphs are constructed?
PLEASE REPLY TO MY CLASSMATE RESPONSE TO THE ABOVE QUESTIONS AND EXPLAIN WHY YOU AGREE? (A MINIMUM OF 125 WORDS)
CLASSMATE’S RESPONSE
My strongest point in the work is identifying material that covers the subject comprehensively. I have been able to identify academic journal articles that support the issue of standardized testing and the different areas of the topic covered. The fact that the issue of standardized testing has been debated for a long time helps in finding the right material. My weakest point has been following the instructions on sentences. At times, I find myself providing evidence in the first sentence instead of simply introducing the topic to be discussed in that paragraph.
I feel the scope of the project is narrow in a manner that allows one to follow a given line of thought. It comprises of enough guidelines to ensure that the work is confined to the issue of standardized testing in America. The topic prompt also helped to specify the issues to be discussed in the rest of the project. Though the process is a bit restrictive, it has been effective in ensuring that my thought process is ordered.
The sentence guides have also ensured that we cover every part of a topic sentence. At every juncture, I have been able to analyse and see whether I have sufficiently addressed all the points required for every part. The structure is helpful in guiding the writing and producing work that is comprehensive. After getting the right content, the guide ensures that such content is organized in a logical manner. As far as the difference between public and academic sources, most of the academic policy papers provide a structure where after introducing the topic, they summarize the evidence present about the topic. After that, they provide a concluding sentence that prepares one for the next paragraph. However, public sources do not necessarily provide evidence and are rather persuasive and written through a subjective lens.
