 This assignment assesses competency 2. EVALUATE the deregulation era of U.S. air carriers.

Directions

The Group Research Project is DUE at end of term.   The LP2 Assignment is the first step of the project. 

To start this project, your instructor will place you in a grop.  Your first step will be to contact your group, select a team leader, exchange information on the project, and discuss each other’s roles in the group. Then, decide on a project topic from the book, and send the topic and a description of your group’s roles to your professor for approval.

Submit this assignment to your instructor via the dropbox LP2 Assignment: Group Research Project. This assignment is worth 100 points; grading will be based on the LP2 Assignment Rubric. 

Additional information regard the Group Research Project:

Individual Requirements for the Research Project: 2500 word research paper, follow APA style format (Times New Roman 12 pt. font, double spaced, include a Title page and References). Your reference page should include a minimum of three scholarly references, blogs and Wiki pages are not acceptable.

Group Requirements for the PowerPoint Presentation: the group will create and submit a 5 slide presentation to be presented in class online. Your presentation must be submitted as a video file and posted on your YouTube station.

This assignment will assess Competency 2: Examine the legalities involved in the area of employment in higher education institutions.

Directions: Write a 500-1000 word paper explaining how affirmative action affects admissions decisions in higher education.

First, review your notes for Regents of the University of California v. Bakke (1978) and Fisher v. University of Texas (2013). Provide a summary of each of these cases and their effect on higher education admissions.

Next, research and report on the current state of affirmative action in admissions decisions.

Finally, suggest two policy measures an institution could adopt in order to avoid liability on these issues in the future.

LP2.2 Assignment: Termination Checklist

This assignment will assess Competency 2: Examine the legalities involved in the area of employment in higher education institutions.

Directions: Write a 500-1000 word paper discussing the process of employee termination.

Review the following Employee Relations Termination Checklist and explain why each of the bulleted headings is a necessary step in the process. Support your explanation with at least two cases or articles that illustrate the necessity of following a consistent termination process.

1) Determine if termination is appropriate.  Review performance documentation.  Review pertinent disciplinary documents. Consider legal factors such as EO, ADA, etc.

2) Retrieve exit form information.  Vacation Hour Balance  Medical/Dental Coverage

3) Coordinate with supervisor to initiate termination.  Determine date/time/location.  Determine who should be present.  Provide exit form information.  Coach termination techniques, etc.

4) Supervisor conducts termination. (Contact IT to immediately remove e-mail/network access.)  Complete exit form.  Complete final timesheet (as applicable-see above).  Retrieve university property.  Present severance agreement (as applicable).

5) Follow up with supervisor immediately after termination.  Confirm termination was conducted properly.  Determine need to follow up on any special circumstances.  Receive final timesheet (as applicable) and exit form.

6) Process termination.  Pull personnel file.  Attach exit form, final timesheet, and outstanding advance status to file.  Provide file/documents to payroll.
