I was just wondering when the homologous chromosomes pair up at Prophase 1 in meiosis for the production of gametes, are the homologous chromosomes referring to the maternal and paternal chromosomes? Because at this point, fertilisation hasn't occurred, so there shouldn't be any chromosomes from the other parent?
