Original question #1

After reading and evaluating the material found in theme one. Select five new businesses that you perceive will succeed in the present economic environment today. Explain the business purpose and give supported reasons as to why you selected them based on the course material.

******My homework is to provide a response to this student answer to this question, Response must have in text citations AND references from the course material below, RESPONSE CANNOT BE IN AGREEMENT******

Kevin Voldarski Student Answer/Post: The five opportunities listed would be in energy, trade, technology, infrastructure, and talent development (Lund, Manyika, Nyquist, Mendonca, & Ramaswamy, 2013). The first one is easy for me to chose as I will be working in the field in a little more than a month. The energy sector has learned how to produce oil out of the shale by the use of Fracking and other technologies. The environmental risks need to be mitigated to ensure success in the field (Lund, Manyika, Nyquist, Mendonca, & Ramaswamy, 2013). The next field is US trade. I am glad to see that we are leveling the field in the trade market in relation to the world. This will not be easy as some markets will suffer because of not selling as much as they used to before loosing the additional sales. On the local radio they stated that US pork sales have decreased leaving a surplus that has driven the price down due to overstock in the market. Adding more jobs and increasing the national GDP is a good thing! (Lund, Manyika, Nyquist, Mendonca, & Ramaswamy, 2013). There are a few drawbacks in this though. Countries such as the one I currently live in base theirs off of the dollar and borrow on it. There are not many goods that can be produced and traded from here besides the obvious oil. Collection and analysis of data in a few specific fields will be able to help turn around their inefficiency (Lund, Manyika, Nyquist, Mendonca, & Ramaswamy, 2013). Infrastructure maintenance will continue to be a requirement. Jobs will continue to be added to meet the demands of upgrades and improvements needed for years to come. And for the last opportunity talent development was chosen. Talent development is the improvement of the United States comparison to other countries globally. Being able to effectively train Americas workplace will give a substantial increase in annual GDP (Lund, Manyika, Nyquist, Mendonca, & Ramaswamy, 2013).

Original question #2

Reflect on the statement below and then take a position as to the truth of the statement.  Support your position with the course material.

"There is no difference between leaders and managers today."

******My homework is to provide a response to this student answer to this question, Response must have in text citations AND references from the course material below, RESPONSE CANNOT BE IN AGREEMENT******

Kevin Voldarski Student Answer/Post: I do not believe the statement about managers and leaders to be true. There is a vast difference between leaders and managers. Leaders will attempt to influence others to perform their job or task, while managers will just control the output of the team by adding control measures (Arruda, 2016). Leaders will be original in an attempt to maximize the collaboration in the workplace. In contrast the manager will copy what they have been taught instead of being themselves and creating what will work for themselves (Arruda, 2016). The next attribute of a leader is that the leader will take chances in contrary to the manager who will only know how to mitigate risk, leaders will also think more long term without the need for personal praise. The leader will always work on their personal traits and skills to improve their ability influence others. The manager will lack the ability to create a relationship and will instead build measures to achieve goals. The leader will enhance the team instead of just telling them what to do. After attaining all of the traits described the leader will earn the respect of everyone they work with. The manager will have people who follow directions because their motivation depends on their paycheck or family (Arruda, 2016).
