Overview

For this week's assignment, you will review the "End of Chapter Application Case: Pre-Positioning of Emergency Items for CARE International" found on page 433 of the textbook and answer the questions at the end of the case in a scholarly manner. In this case CARE International developed a model to evaluate the effect that pre-positioning relief items would have on CARE's average relief-aid emergency response time. The model's results helped CARE managers to determine the desired configuration for the organization's pre-positioning network.

In your responses, you should examine the main challenges encountered by CARE, how the linear programming model was used to meet the objective function, applications that would be suitable for handling the magnitude of variables and constraints in the case, and benefits of the pre-positioning model.
