Read the following chapters of your class text, Fundamentals of Occupational Safety & Health 7th edition, and answer the questions below at the end of each chapter:

Chapter 1: Introduction to Occupational Safety & Health:

1-     Why does it make good business sense to have a good safety program? List four reasons.

2-     Do you think most working individuals are concerned with occupational safety and health issues? Why?

3-     Why is it useful to study historical occupational safety and health events?

4-     Why are zero accidents believed by many to be an unrealistic goal particularly in a large workplace?

5-     Explain the criticality of ethics in the safety and health professions. Why are the essential to those professions?

Chapter 2: Safety Legislation

1-     Can safety and health be legislated? What are the limitations of safety legislation? Where would be without it?

2-     Although safety and health fines have gone up significantly in recent years, do you think it maters how high the are when the likelihood of being inspected is so low? Discuss this with people in industry and note their opinions.
