Tarzan is a story of a man referred to as John Clayton who was born by a couple that had been marooned in the jungles. The story is set in a jungle setting as opposed to the city setting in case of Chekhov’s story. When John’s parents die, a she-ape called Kala adopts him. He is named Tarzan meaning 'white skin'. Tarzan is raised amongst apes and becomes ignorant. Tarzan decides to avenge her death and starts raiding the tribe for weapons. He also plays cruel pranks on the tribe and they consider him an evil spirit. Later on Kerchak, the ape that killed Tarzan’s father becomes jealous of Tarzan who is increasingly becoming popular among the apes. Kerchak and Tarzan get into a fight and the former is killed making Tarzan the king of apes. Later a marooned party of whites, inclusive of Jane Porter turns out to be from Tarzans ancestral home. William Cecil who is among them realizes that Tarzon was his cousin. The marooned party is later rescued and Tarzan becomes a friend to a French Naval officer, Paul D’Arnot who teaches him of human civilization. Later on Tarzan travels to Baltimore to visit Jane but is frustrated when he finds out that she is engaged to William Clayton. William had managed to prove Tarzans identity but Tarzan denies it for Jane’s happiness. In Tarzan, the characters are a mix of human and apes. However, the apes are made to act as humans. However, the characters in Chekhov story are mainly human other than Anne’s pet that appears to act more like humans than animals.
