I connote that the identity issue in spite of the kind of state one is affiliated to is a generational crisis and the sooner we find its solution the better. A true definition of identity lies in our own understanding of the kind of language we normally use in all the aspects of our lives. But this true definition may be construed to mean. “a true sense of one’s self that continuously develops from birth to adult hood.” This kind of growth allows for the differentiation of different generations to believe in a single unifying factor that makes a society. Such important unifying factors make up a family, a society, or even a nation. But the most important of them all is the nation hood. Even though we might consider different kinds of identity, our major concern is the national identity. I am of the opinion that if we can make a language a source of this identity then, we should reflect upon the United States of America and how English may be used to create a source of identity. I can attest to the fact that language forms part of national emblem that unifies all American regardless of their cultural, political and economical standings. The existence of many immigrants who have actually reached the citizenship status and not adjusting to this language proficiency is thwarting the development of English as a language.
