Kony 2012 is a vigilant online campaign with the aim of arresting Joseph Kony, a Ugandan guerrilla rebel leader who happens to be head of a terrorist organization known as the Lord’s Resistant Army, before the year 2012 ends. The event aims at creating a viral campaign for raising awareness the use of children by Kony as soldiers and sex slaves, hoping to urge the American military to help the Ugandan army in capturing him. In 2003, three filmmakers namely Bobby Barley, Jason Russell, and Laren Poole, in their visit to Africa learned about the Lord’s Resistant Army’s war against the Ugandan government and the dangers posed by the group’s apparent control over a large population of civilians. In 2004, they formed a non-profit organization known as Invisible children Inc in an attempt to attract attention to Kony and his group (O’Connor 32).

In the collection of the data for the paper and its analysis, ten participants of the event were interviewed in order to get their opinions on the nature of the event. While most of the participants were in support of the campaign to arrest Joseph Kony, they were not impressed by the campaign itself, and some were suspicious of the organization, questioning the real motive of the event in relation to the organizers. Some participants felt that the invisible Children’s event and the campaign diverted its attention from capturing Kony and the aspirations of the organization to the person who was informing the world about Kony’s evil doing, who is Jason Russell, one of the three journalists who co-founded the organization.
