Removing it from our system is easier said than done because sometimes, taking revenge has a satisfying feeling that we got even or “justice has been served”. This satisfying feeling of getting even with our enemy is the common reason why people take revenge. which is why it has been said that in taking revenge, “a man is but even with his enemy”.

But to be above and over our enemy, which sometimes are ourselves, we must discipline ourselves not to give in to revenge. It takes a lot of discipline to resist anger, hatred and revenge but it can do us well in maintaining a healthier outlook in life. Our enemies will be lessened if not totally removed when we forgo revenge because we no longer provide them a reason to continue the cycle of revenge.

I did this one time with an old enemy who expected me to get back at him when he wronged me. When we met, he prepared himself for a confrontation but instead, I told him to “just chill” and winked at him to signify that he does not affect me. I left him aghast with how I handled the situation and I think, until now he is still thinking about me while he no longer exists in my
