I believe that leadership traits are important factors to develop and nurture human capital for optimal performance. I would like to assume managerial leadership role within my professional arena in near future. Thus, skill development in leadership through various processes and learning outcome are critical short term goals.

Two types of leadership are most popular: transactional leadership. and transformational leadership. Transactional motivates the workforce to strive towards collective goals with higher accountability and improved work performance (Burns, 1978). This type of leadership takes charge in contingency and brings routine to mundane tasks. On the other hand, the transformational leadership brings about behavioral transformation in the people that is persuaded by the idealized behavior, traits and attitude of the leaders. Good leadership teaches through self-example and followers tend to emulate them in their personal and professional lives (Yukl, 2002). They instill confidence and empower them to make decisions based on informed choices.

Transformational leaders are hugely relevant in the contemporary environment of multi-cultural society where people come from different background of race, culture, color and nationality. Followers learn to interact across socio-cultural divide through cross cultural understanding and promote relationship building through mutual respect. They also learn to develop attitude and new perspectives which are conducive for a mutually benefiting and tolerant society. I would like to develop traits of transformational leaders as they promote proactive participation of workforce in decision making and having shared goals.
