                                                  Identifying a Community’s Needs

One of the elements that will be missing in your grant application and your conception of whatever community need you will be trying to address with your grant-funded project is the community’s views on its own needs. One approach to gather such important input is to conduct a community forum in which members of the community are invited to attend a meeting to share their views with your organization’s leadership. Prepare an invitation letter to a local community group inviting their participation in your community forum.

While writing your letter, in addition to functional information, such as time, date, and location, include information on why you are seeking the input of the community group. In particular, detail the specific information, or guidance, you are seeking from the community so that they may come to the meeting prepared to have a substantive discussion on the topic. Specify at least ten such groups, organizations, or individuals who should also be invited to the community forum.

Submit your letter in a 2- to 3-page Microsoft Word document.
