The two rebellions were similar in that they were opposing similar aspects of the government, notably the crown. Although the severity of their assaults was different, they both led to the unification of the two states and establishment of responsible government. Another similarity is that both rebellions were disorganized and insufficiently armed. They both also got assistance from American sympathizers. They were however different in the sense that the rebellion in the Lower Canada was more fatal and brutal than the Upper Canada insurgency
