Choose and research a movie that deals with the topic of addiction and obtain facilitator approval (see message below).
Write a 700- to 1050-word paper in which you answer the following (it is helpful to add headings to your paper to keep this information organized; see the sample template I included with the materials for this assignment):
- Introduction (see Center for Writing Excellence resource at https://ecampus.phoenix.edu/secure/aapd/grammar/gwae/gwaeOrganizing.asp to learn about writing an essay)
- Explain what types of addiction were addressed, and how the film's characters became addicted, if known.
- How did this addiction immediately physically affect the individuals involved, and what were the long-term health problems from this addiction? If the movie was unclear on short-term physical and/or long-term effects, conduct research and discuss your findings in the paper.
- In what way did the addiction affect work and relationships?
- How would you confront the addicted person to bring attention to the problem? Explain.
- Does the addicted individual blame his or her addiction on anyone? Do they take personal responsibility for their addiction?
- Describe the available treatments for this addiction.
- Would this treatment work for all types of addictions? Consider, for example, alcoholism with drug addiction or smoking and eating.
- Conclusion
- Cite and reference at least two sources of information. The movie itself should also be cited.
Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines. Again, see the Template provided for you in the Student Materials section (this is a modified version of the template provided in the Center for Writing Excellence). Remember to include a title page, introduction, conclusion, and cite and reference at least two sources of information (the movie itself also needs to be cited and referenced!). Headings help keep your paragraphs organized, and these are provided in that template.
Please do not focus on providing a full description of the movie itself. Rather, let the questions be your guide in completing this assignment.
Be sure to add transitions in your writing. You can learn more about transitions by clicking on the Library tab, then on the Center for Writing Excellence. From here, click on Visit Tutorials and Guides, and under Grammar Tutorials, click on Grammar and Writing Guides. Click on Writing Style, and finally, click on "Transitions". If you'd like, after reviewing that information, you can click on the "Skill-and-Drill" at the bottom of the page to take a quiz to test your skills on adding transitions. Another helpful resource can be found here: https://ecampus.phoenix.edu/secure/aapd/grammar/gwae/gwaeTransitions.asp.
