Need help with my writing homework on Communication Problems in Business. Write a 500 word paper answering; The problem of communication in business is relatively new and is given a lot of attention mainly because of the Human Resource Management concept's popularity. Both theorists and practitioners of management agree that most businesses are currently facing communication problems called barriers, huge or small. Most of these barriers can be seen from the analyzing perspective as a noise that hinders effective work varying in volume. "It's no less of a barrier than the noise of a pneumatic drill punctuating the conversation of two people in the street" (Winnett, 2005)

What is the key factor when reducing that noise In one word: management. While the staff of the company makes it functioning with every-day routine, executives in turn make sure of the functions performed properly by personnel. However there is no observer, who will control manager's work, they have to do it themselves.

There are three basic aspects of communication that should be taken into consideration, especially when arranging an international conference: information comprehensiveness (i.e. does the information given covers all the aspects the recipient wanted to hear about), information urgency (is your report up-to-date) and plainness (does the recipient understand what you're talking about).

Let me start with the latter issue because of its great importance. Imagine 300 people from several dozens of countries talking in different languages, exchanging diverse cultures and dissimilar professional experience - now you can see the problem: how could be the same information delivered to all members of the conference with the acceptable level of comprehension

The problem must be solved using two means: proper language use and no jargon. Modern technology allows us to use multiple simultaneous interpreters translating a report do lots of different languages at a time. Use of jargon is more dangerous issue, because many specialists often underestimate its true harm. To ensure clarity of the information presented on the conference, it must be checked for omitting slangy terms, which vary greatly from place to place and therefore can be a disaster to understanding.

The next issue to be considered is the urgency of the information. Needless to say, people invited to the conference expect to hear something new and useful. It is as important as the urgent information told in time in the internal company environment. Therefore we must make sure that our conference won't be a museum-like into the past of fiber optics.

Finally, the comprehensiveness of the information relates to the level of trust our company deserves. It is often a sad fact when a business implements greater secrecy than it is needed. Oppositely, "many organizations are now considering a relatively new philosophy called Open Book Management for this very reason. Lack of information often causes more problems than divulging those deep, dark company secrets." (Walinskas, 2005). Maybe we should follow this example

Clarity, timeliness and exhaustiveness of the information are three whales, which hold the effective communication. They are as important as the base level of the building we're situated in.
