Annotated Bibliography

Brack, C. E., Rochat, R. W., & Bernal, O. A. (2017). “It's a Race Against the Clock”: A Qualitative Analysis of Barriers to Legal Abortion in Bogotá, Colombia. International perspectives on sexual and reproductive health Review, 43(4), 173-182. doi: org/10.1363/43e5317

Brack, Rochat & Bernal articles provide information regarding how the Colombian Court declared all abortion practices to be against the law. Anyone who would be involved in such activities would be answerable to the court of law. However, this was not the case since illegal abortion persists in the state behind the scenes (Brack, Rochat & Bernal, 2017). It would be advisable if the government took time to understand the reason behind women resorting to unsafe, illegal abortion thus making such services legal.

Campillo, I. S. L., Meaney, S., Corcoran, P., Spillane, N., & O’Donoghue, K. (2019). Risk factors for miscarriage among women attending an early pregnancy assessment unit (EPAU): a prospective cohort study. Irish Journal of Medical Science Review, (1971- ), 1-10. doi:  org/10.1007/s11845-018-1955-2

Campillo, Meaney, Corcoran, Spillane & O’Donoghue draws a sharp focus regarding the threat associated with miscarriages in women attending an early pregnancy assessment unit (EPAU). It was discovered that pregnant women attending EPAU were more vulnerable to miscarriages (Campillo, Meaney, Corcoran, Spillane & O’Donoghue, 2019). It would be wise if maternal and psychological factors were investigated since they were discovered to be the main cause of miscarriages in women attending an EPAU.

Stewart, H., McCall, S. J., McPherson, C., Towers, L. C., Lloyd, B., Fletcher, J., & Bhattacharya, S. (2016). The effectiveness of peri-abortion counseling in preventing subsequent unplanned pregnancy: a systematic review of randomized controlled trials. J Fam Plann Reprod Health Care Review, 42(1), 59-67. doi: 10.1136/jfprhc-2014-101096.

Stewart, McCall, McPherson, Towers, Lloyd, Fletcher, & Bhattacharya provide a reliable analysis of whether excessive use of contraceptive methods had any effect on unplanned pregnancies. The study showed that a significant percentage of women were consuming contraceptives. The review did not show any evidenced of the effect that resulted from constant use of contraceptives on an unplanned pregnancy (Stewart, McCall, McPherson, Towers, Lloyd, Fletcher & Bhattacharya, 2016). It was recommended that larger scale randomized controlled trials should be taken to warrant ample power to perceive such effects.
