Network Design (i.e., Part 1) Network Addressing and Security (i.e., Part 2) Network Customization and Optimization (i.e., Part 3)
Overview
-
Your proposal will be submitted in three major parts:
- Network Design (i.e., Part 1)
- Network Addressing and Security (i.e., Part 2)
- Network Customization and Optimization (i.e., Part 3)
Each of these parts will be submitted to the LEO Assignments folders and TurnItIn. Each of these parts should be submitted independently of the other parts. That is, only submit Part 1 to the LEO - Assignments - Network Design Proposal Part 1 submission folder. Only submit Part 2 to the LEO - Assignments - Network Design Proposal Part 2 submission folder. And, only submit Part 3 to the LEO - Assignments - Network Design Proposal Part 3 submission folder.
To learn how you will be assessed on this assignment, take a moment to review the rubrics. The final deliverable should adhere to the following criteria:
- Use this template as a guide while creating your Network Design Proposal (Parts 1-3).
- Include at least five scholarly references references in each of the three submissions. Thus, a total of six scholarly references will be included in total. Students may find scholarly sources by visiting UMUC’s library and online sources. Students will also include other credible sources as appropriate.
- Use IEEE-style citations. We do not use APA or MLA-style citations. Students should contact UMUC’s Effective Writing Center for assistance.
- Use proper terminology and expand acronyms in each paragraph they are used. For example, the first time in a paragraph an acronym is used it should be expanded (e.g., University of Maryland University College (UMUC). Thereafter, and as long as you are in the same paragraph, the acronym (e.g., UMUC) can be used. When starting a new paragraph, the rule begins anew.
- The use of figures and diagrams is encouraged. Students will properly cite the figures and diagrams according to the IEEE-style citation
- Before submitting each part to the appropriate folder in LEO - Assignments, students will upload to TurnItIn. Students should review the LEO - Announcements for specific instructions or contact the Professor.
Network Design (i.e., Part 1)
-
In this section, address each of the following.
- Define the network topology that will be used and justify the decision.
- Select the appropriate cables and connectors and justify the decision. Describe where wired connections will be used within or across the two new academic buildings and justify the decision. Students must use both wired and wireless technologies.
- Student should be specific when discussing the models, types, and costs.
- Student should be specific when discussing the models, types, and costs.
- Student should be specific when discussing the models, types, and costs.
- Student should be specific when discussing the models, types, and costs.
- Student should be specific when discussing the models, types, and costs.
Students will find the majority of information working through the TestOut LabSim labs. Students should seek additional information to include in each submission as described in the overview by searching scholarly journalsand other credible sources as appropriate. Reputable technical websites can be considered a credible source, but make sure to include at least two scholarly sources for each part of the Network Design Proposal.
Network Addressing and Security (i.e., Part 2)
-
In this section, address each of the following.
IP Addressing:
- Watch How to Subnet a Network Video provided in Content -> Project Instructions
- Review the Network Address Template provided in Content -> Project Instructions -> Project Templates for Parts 1 - 3
- Complete the subnet chart provided at the end of the document.
Security
- Select each of the firewall types to implement, describe network or host-based placement, and configuration details; and justify each of the decisions.
- Students should be specific when discussing the models, types, and costs.
- Students should be specific when discussing the models, types, and costs.
- Students should be specific when discussing the models, types, and costs.
- How you will protect against social engineering attacks, and justify your decision.
- How you will protect against faculty or students willingly, or unwillingly introducing malware onto the network, and justify your decision.
- What secure protocols you will require for faculty and students to use while accessing resources internal, or external to the network, and justify your decision.
Network Customization and Optimization (i.e., Part 3)
-
In this section, address each of the following.
- Identify network services needed.
- List additional servers or network devices needed to implement the network.
- List network security measures to be implemented.
- Justify the need for the network services, security measures, and devices you've selected.
- Identify network storage and cloud based services that will be available for faculty and students
- Students should be specific when discussing the configuration and implementation.
- Students should consider the needs of the administration, faculty, and students.
- Students should be specific when describing protocol analyzers, network monitoring tools, and packet sniffers
- Students should consider this in the context of the network or cloud based storage selected.
