Now you've learned about the social contract: a philosophical concept that suggests that citizens in a society give up the least possible amount of their individual rights and freedoms in exchange for services and protection from the government. In this discussion, you'll have a chance to put your knowledge to work, roleplaying as the chief of the Atlanta Police Department.

This is important for policing as citizens in society want to be protected from others who would do them harm, but also don’t want to have their privacy and rights infringed upon by police. This creates a complicated situation where citizens will not be happy with their local police if crime is increasing OR if they feel their rights are being infringed upon by the local police.
