Measuring Performance

Over the past years, most firms in the world have strived to ensure that they adopt the right approaches when it comes to the evaluation of their performances.  In this regard then, various organizations have used different approaches to ensure that they are able to adequately assess their performance. Poirier et.al (2009) states that there are a number of challenges that tend to present themselves in the course of this undertaking.  However, through the use of the performance indicator (KPI) a firm can be able to accurately measure some of the goals which it cannot be able to measure quantitively through a set rating system.

A firm can be able to measure its performance through a number of ways. One is through gathering information appraisals from its subordinates on issues pertaining to the workplace and how it can be made much better in the long run. Another way has been through performing a self-appraisal more so to the employees on having a reflection on their strengths and weaknesses in the job place. The third way is through collecting feedback from a colleague and thus help in the improvement as well as dedication when it comes to performing tasks (Poirier et.al, 2009). Last but least is through a comprehensive compilation of supervisor evaluations that can allow the management have an objective overview on their employee’s roles as well as productivity of their work.  From the above-mentioned ways, it is evident that without the necessary tools to evaluate performance, then a firm cannot be able to wholly understand if it is progressing or retrogressing.

Great post and point about KPI's. In your opinion should KPI's be very specific or more general to be successful?
