Our lives are political whether we recognize it or not.  Understanding the political process is essential to navigating life in the United States and around the world.  Last year, we witnessed an increased wave of activism because of the murder of George Floyd.  This tragedy energized folks from every walk of life.  Political leaders come from all walks of life, from poverty-stricken upbringings to affluent families.  While African Americans have been a part of the political process since Reconstruction until recently there has been little attention given to the contributions made by Black people in general and Black men. 

For this assignment, watch the film Barry on Netflix.  Afterward read the article entitled, “The Last Black President or the HBO Max movie,  “ Judas and the Black Messiah”.  From there, you will write a three-page essay on Black men and the political process based on what you learned in the film and reading.    How have black men played an integral part in the political process in the United States?  How do Black men navigate the political landscape?
