Re:Topic 1 DQ 1

The ethos of scientism and postmodernism has exacerbated the perceived philosophical and cultural tension between science and religion. What is your perception of this tension? Use the lecture and the topic readings to support your response.

I feel that there is tension between cultural science and religion. I feel that because I have seen it with certain cultures. For example I was working one day and I had a patient that was declared brain dead and on life support. The patients husband was Muslim. The husband was not convinced that his wife was brain dead even though the testing was done but the doctor that did the testing was a male. The husband also would not allow for his wife to be taken care of by any males, the nurses and doctors had to be all females he demanded. Because the only doctor that could test for brain activity was male, the husband did not believe him, the husband stated if it was a female doctor then he would believe it. Because of the culture there were different beliefs, and opinions when the science was right there supporting the brain activity ("religion," 2015).
