Personal and Cultural Background

Being familiar with the personal and cultural background of clients can help social workers better evaluate a client problem or develop an intervention. In particular, it is important for social workers to have some understanding of the cultural background of their clients. Cultural background can influence client response to interventions or treatments. Social workers are usually at a disadvantage if they are completely unfamiliar with the cultural background of clients. Lack of cultural familiarity can impact client-social worker relationships.For this Discussion, you assume the role of the client and consider how personal and cultural background can influence client-social worker relationships.Write a brief description of at least two characteristics or attributes from your personal and cultural background that you would want a social worker to know about you if you were a client. Then, explain how you might respond to a social worker who is unfamiliar with your cultural background. Finally, explain how a social worker's lack of familiarity with your cultural background might impact the client-social worker relationship.
