Please choose one of the following questions to respond to for this discussion board. Remember that you must use a quote from one of the texts as evidence in your response.:

1) Using an area of character analysis, please evaluate one character from "Ysrael." Some areas to focus on include: protagonist/antagonist/foil, round/flat and static/dynamic characters, or you can analyze the motivations of the character (conflicts, etc.). You do not have  to use every term. Pick one or two and evaluate the character.

2) Using point of view, please evaluate the focus of "Ysrael" or "The South." You do not have to write on both texts. Look at the narrator and what is gained or excluded by the author's use of POV. In other words, how does POV shape reader experience? Why might that be significant?

3) Using setting analysis, please evaluate the setting in either "Ysrael" or The South." You do not have to write on both texts. Some areas to focus on include: historical, geographic, physical settings. You do not have to cover all three.

Please identity the term/focus in the topic sentence and its representation in the text.

Follow-up responses should do more that state "I agree" or "I disagree."

Finally, remember that literary analysis: 1) makes interpretive claims; 2) that are debatable; 3) that are supported with evidence from the text(s) (this must include direct quotes from the text); 4) that argue for a thesis about the text (this will probably fall into your topic sentence); and 5) that explore the complexity of the text.

"I" and "you" should not be used in initial posts ("I" and "you" are fine for follow-up posts as they are less formal), nor should you announce intent in the topic sentence: for example, do not write, "In this discussion board I will discuss "Ysrael"; or, "The text I chose to review for this assignment is "The South." Consider your claim, interpretation, or argument in the topic sentence.
