In the West, secularism tends to mean that religion is removed from the legal realm and in cases like France, removed from public space. The MENA region is a place that complicates Western notions of religion and secularism. Using three assigned readings, explain the ways that the region could be seen as religious, as well as secular; in other words, how is it neither a theocracy, but also not devoid of religion.
