What changes in language are being enforced by new technologies, and what is being gained and lost by such changes?

The use of cell phone applications is a change in language that have been enforced by new technology. The way we communicate and use the cell phone has shifted the way we proceed with daily living. Since the invention of cell phones, transmitting messages from written letters to a text is significant in society today. Accessing videos, check deposits, photos and movies apparently have become easy by just a click away. Not only in that form of communication but connection with viewing movies on cell phones has become a popular trend. As of now, there is nothing that cannot be conducted on this electronic device.

In contrast with the statement made by Jacob (2010) in his article “From Cursive to Cursor”, he articulates and compares his scrappy handwriting over voice recognition and the use of typewriters a device and an application that in his opinion has change in language due to those enforced technologies which he adds would be a dreaded time if he reverted back to handwriting assignments. One would agree that the change used to capture his written ideas has been very reliable and is destine for good.

What is being gained is the ability to communicate to any part of the world with just a click, using various apps such as WhatsApp, “Facetime”, Zoom, Video/Web Conferencing and Snap Chat. These applications are very beneficial now due to the unforeseen circumstances that surround us. In addition, However, considering this, the world has truly lost the essential way of teaching the fundamentals like researching unfamiliar words form a hard copy of a dictionary or making face-to-face appointments. Forbid the internet falls, many would be lost with having to revert to modern technology.

  • What is the problem for which this technology is the solution?
  • Whose problem is it?

A problem for cell phone and smart phone technology is that they are susceptible to bugs and viruses.Through the rapid growth and success of the cell phone/ smart phone did come with just a few tiny set backs. One being that the bugs and virus can now implement them selves on the a users phone. Realistically the virus on a phone an a computer are a bit different however hackers have often used these methods in order to obtain information off a users phone. However, there are many other types of smart phone malware. Most people think of any malicious software as a virus, even though it is technically inaccurate. There is malware made for stealing credentials from a users account. Adware is more realistic to get on your phone no a days though. This is a problem for the companies making the phones and the people using them. In order to protect the mobile device.

It’s pretty simple to minimize the risk of encountering malware, and multiple mobile security tips right here. The top two ways to protect yourself are to download a security app like Lookout to catch those pesky “phone viruses” and to be judicious about what apps you download and were you download them from. Lookout will scour your phone or tablet for any existing malware, and also examine every new app you download to ensure it is safe. But even before you let Lookout scan your newly downloaded app, you should only download apps from sites you trust, check the ratings and read reviews to make sure they’re widely used and respected. This has been a growing problem over the past few years but little buy little large corporations are working to make this impossible for people to obtain malware on there smart phones.

What changes in language are being enforced by new technologies, and what is being gained and lost by such changes?

This question really caught my attention because of how our language not only has changed by technology but also how we would respond to any situation. Which the creation of text messaging, we no longer have to go to the person's house or wait until we see them at work to let them know or speak what you were wanting to say while you were with the person or group of people. It also has changed the way people interact with each other and allows us to continue our lives to send a quick text. “However, while new communication technologies certainly can have a positive effect on relationships within the workplace, other aspects of the technology (such as reduced cues and contextual information) can lead to increased misunderstandings, de-personalization, organizational conflict, and more recent issues like cyberbullying in the workplace (D’Urso 2006; Priviteria and Campbell 2009; Turnage 2007).” I definitely agree with this quote because of the new technologies it doesn’t allow us to have that same interpretation of emotions of the person who is saying it, rather than how the other person is feeling at the time of reading. Although this has great benefits being able to work from home it has led us to be less sociable in our lives and not being able to have that normal face-to-face conversation. This can also lead to not having the traditional work environment and advancements within a company. Also, with this new technology this has changed the way we speak to one another with slang, emojis, pictures, and GIFs to show or relay the message. Text is now being used more often regardless of how important the message may be.
