Scope of the Problem

• Discuss how many people in the target population have the risk factor.
• Give statistics on prevalence of the risk factor. What percentage or ratio of the population have the risk factor?
• Do not quote raw numbers—how many people do such and such. Instead use % or ratios
• Compare local statistics to state and national statistics.
• Include statistics on all three levels
• Be sure to compare "apples-to-apples."
• For example: quote stats for all 3 levels which are the same type of stats, not % for one, and a rate for another
• Interpret the statistics quoted.
• Discuss how the statistics relate to each other (I. e. - the local community has higher/lower incidence of the problem compared to levels in Oklahoma and to the United States).
• Discuss trends in the past 10 years or so related to the risk factor (any trends up or down in prevalence of the risk factor)
• Include trends in the US and in OK
• Discuss What influences these trends?
