Discussion Post

When choosing a measurement for qualitative research it is necessary to consider two aspects: validity and reliability. Measures can vary depending on the information gathered, how complex it is and the scores they garner (Polit & Beck, 2016). There are different levels of measurement used to measure quantitative research variables in nursing. It also refers to the relationship that exists between the values and the attributes for a variable (Trochim, 2020).

There are four levels of measurement, nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio (Trochim, 2020). The nominal level refers to naming the value without any mathematical reason. Ordinal provides information in the order of a value. Interval indicates the value in each category and ratio is used to compare how one item is more or less of something than another (QuestionPro, 2020).

I would prefer to use nominal level of measurement when conducting research. This type of measurement can be obtained from open-ended questions and multiple-choice questions. This type of measurement can be analyzed by recording percentages (QuestionPro, 2020). This is the type of measure that is leads to precise thus making it my choice.
