1.Class: Question for participation: One of the sources I shared early in the course was an article by Yilmaz. Yilmaz (2013) compares the differences in the epistemological, theoretical and methodological underpinnings between the two methodologies, in part because while quantitative is well established, qualitative research is still growing and its approaches are different and becoming more distinct from quantitative. Why is it important to understand methodology at the levels as Yilmaz discusses? How will a deep understanding of these methodologies inform your research project?

2.I think a phenomenological design is a proper approach to explore the lived experiences individuals have regarding their flexible working arrangements.  This design delves into the subjective realities of employees, offering a deep understanding of their personal encounters with such work setups (Bouzioti, 2023, p.2). Phenomenology, by recording a spectrum of individual impressions, meshes effortlessly with a qualitative approach, which prioritizes the depth and complexity of human experiences over the breadth provided by quantitative methods.

The benefit of using phenomenology resides in its ability to extract the essences of experiences, revealing not only the perceived facts of individuals but also the meaning behind them. This design will provide us with nuanced insights into the triumphs and challenges that employees face, giving a complex narrative that quantitative data alone cannot provide. The phenomenological study will highlight the effects of flexible work on job satisfaction, work-life balance, and productivity through in-depth interviews, focus groups, or participant observations.

By choosing this design, you can identify patterns and themes that are significant to the participants, thereby fostering a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon (Athamanah et al., 2020, p. 277).
