InstructionsWell in advance of each deadline, the instructor will publish a set of possible questions/topics toconsider for that work (these will be examined in the class discussions). The student should readthe assigned work, and then write a short composition, of perhaps 400-500 words, interacting with the work substantively by addressing one of the given questions/topics—or her own question/topic (consult with the instructor). The student should use and cite the given work regularly and frequently; but the citation method can be relatively informal—citing just the approximate line no. for Plautus, and the section number for Petronius. The student’s name, the course number and name, and the date, should appear at the top of the submission, but no title page or bibliography is required. (If a student chooses to use other works – not recommended –They should cite those formally, according to the method given for the Analysis, above.) Each reflection will be evaluated according to three elements: (a) engagement with/citation of the work, (b) interpretive insight, and (c) communication

I should clarify my instructions for citing Plautus in your first Reflection.  If you look at the pdfs I have provided (Content > Primary Texts), you will be able to see that the range of line numbers for each two pages is indicated at the top of the pages, near the inner margin.  E.g., on pp. 92-93, the corresponding line nos. are 47-99.  Thus if you are citing something on p. 92, you could indicate the range of lines as 47-73; the range of lines for p. 93 would then be 74-99.  I would use parenthetical notes indicating just the range of line nos. whenever you use Plautus in your reflection--e.g., the note would be (47-73).

But looking at the formatting of the provided translation of Rope, I have to admit that this whole approach is more cumbersome than I had anticipated.  Thus, for this reflection only, if you want to cite the work by page no. instead of line no., you may do that.  If you are citing by page no., please use p. (one page) or pp. (multiple pages) before the page nos..  E.g., if you were citing something on p. 92, the parenthetical note would look like this (p. 92).  If you were citing a passage that passed from p. 92 to p. 93, the parenthetical note would look like this (pp. 92-93).

If you're using the provided translation of Rope, you don't need a bibliography.  But if you are using a different translation of Plautus, or if you are using other works in addition to Plautus (not recommended), then you would need to add a bibliography to the end of your Reflection.
