QUESTION

procedure: Take a scoop of flour from the appropriate Tribolium stock container and pour it into a piece of paper.

procedure:

1. Take a scoop of flour from the appropriate Tribolium stock container and pour it into a piece of paper. The beetles will begin to move and you can brush them in to your vials using a paint brush. Be careful you do not spill the flour on the bench or floor as there may be eggs in it. You may choose to use a sifter to separate the beetles from the floor.

2. Fill your vials with the appropriate amounts and types of food media ( use fresh food only, Do not use flour from the tribolium containers). Seal the vials with a foam stopper and be sure they are labeled

3. Record the start date, initial number of beetles and mass/type of flour in the table below

4. Place your beetles in the container designated by your lab instructor

5. Each week you will count your beetles and record the data in tables 1-4. Pour the flour from each vial into a sifter and separate the flour into a petri dish. The beetles will remain in the sifter. Count the number of adult beetles and return them, along with the flour, to the vial. Also count the number of dead beetles. Do not return these to the vial. Make sure all flour is returned to the vial

6. Wipe down your bench with a damp paper towel, being sure you do not leave any flour on your bench as it may contain eggs. Wash any equipment that came in contact with flour containing Tribolium( do not use soap)
